When it comes to  lettering a truck, timing is all-important.

A customer’s truck is usually his bread and butter. Whether it’s a builder hauling his materials to the job site, an oil dealer making deliveries to his customers, or a trucker hauling goods across the country, if his truck isn’t on the road, he isn’t making money. So he needs to know when his truck will be lettered, and how long it will take. That’s where scheduling comes in.

Over the years we have developed a system that enables us to take care of our truck customers in a timely and efficient manner. In most cases, a customer is without his truck for only one day, sometimes less, depending on the job. Let’s take a look at our process for truck lettering, so you’ll know what to expect when you come to see us to get your truck lettered.

The first thing we do is discuss with the customer what they need on the truck, and what they have in mind.  Once we get as much info as we can get, we will then take photos and measurements of the truck that will be used to do a layout. That leads us to our next step; design and layout.

Design and layout is done without the customer present. This allows us to be more free with the design, and not overwhelm the customer with too many choices, such as colors and font styles; we do what we feel is best, based on our 37 years of experience. Within a couple of days we’ll send the customer a proof of our design, shown directly on the vehicle photos we took earlier. This allows them to see how the design will actually look on their truck. At this point we will make changes based on the customers input, or if no changes need to be made we’ll schedule there truck to be lettered.

A truck is usually scheduled within a week, depending on our workload at the time. At that point the customer will know what day their truck will actually be lettered. Typically we will have the customer wash the vehicle and drop it off at the end of the day on the day before it will actually be lettered. This way we are able to keep it inside our shop overnight in case it rains or snows, and we’ll have a clean, dry vehicle to work on at the start of the day. In the case of a big box truck, we will have cut all the vinyl graphics needed before the truck is delivered. That way all we have to do on lettering day is apply the lettering, which could take the entire day. A regular pickup truck is done entirely in one day.
In either case, it is most likely that the vehicle will be ready to pick up at the beginning of the next day. This means the customer’s truck is out of order just one day. And since he knows in advance what day that will be, he is often able to schedule other work that day in order to minimize his down-time. We also try to work with the customer to find a day for lettering the fits best with their schedule.

With Marquis Signs, you will never have to guess when your vehicle will be done, or how long it will be down; we will tell you in advance so you can plan ahead. So if you need to have your truck or car lettered, give us a call, you won’t be disappointed.
